The David Bowie Huntsman is a striking, fast‑moving arboreal spider native to Malaysia, Singapore, Sumatra, and nearby regions. In the wild, adults are often found flattened against tree bark, while juveniles hide among shrubs and leaf litter, which gives you a good sense of how they prefer to live in captivity. They thrive in warm, humid forest conditions, and most keepers maintain them at 24–28°C with humidity around 70–80%, a range that mirrors their tropical habitat. This moisture level doesn’t require swampy substrate—just slightly damp conditions and regular misting, paired with strong ventilation to prevent stagnant air.
Because they are extremely fast—keepers often describe them as “teleporting”—their enclosure setup should prioritize both security and vertical structure. A tall, well‑ventilated terrarium with cork bark or textured surfaces allows them to climb and hide naturally. Slightly damp substrate helps maintain humidity, but they spend most of their time on vertical surfaces rather than on the ground. Many keepers house them similarly to other arboreal true spiders: upright enclosures, multiple hides, and plenty of anchor points for movement. Water dishes aren’t strictly required for huntsman spiders, but offering one is harmless and can help stabilize humidity.
Visually, H. davidbowie is one of the most distinctive huntsman species. Males show reddish‑brown tones with bright, scattered orange hairs, while females range from grey to reddish brown with similar patterning. Both sexes have black pedipalps and annulated legs, giving them a dramatic, almost ornamental appearance. Their temperament is not aggressive but they are fast.
