The Vietnamese Giant Yellow‑Leg is a colour form of Scolopendra dehaani, one of the largest centipedes in Asia, with confirmed adults reaching 25 cm in length . This species is naturally widespread across Mainland Southeast Asia, including Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and southern China, and also occurs in India, Japan, Hong Kong, Borneo, and the Andaman & Nicobar Islands .
 
The “yellow‑leg” morph sits within the recognised colour variation documented in a 2016 morphological study, which lists five distinct colour morphs, including forms with yellow or bright‑orange legs and reddish‑brown to bright‑red bodies . Vietnamese populations commonly show brown‑to‑red tergites with clean yellow legs, giving rise to the hobby name “Vietnam Yellow‑Leg.”
 
In the wild, S. dehaani is a powerful, versatile predator, feeding on insects, spiders, vinegaroons, and even small vertebrates such as snakes and frogs . It is both ground‑dwelling and semi‑arboreal, with confirmed observations of individuals foraging in trees and even hunting during the day . Moist forest floors, rotting logs, and humid leaf litter are typical microhabitats.
This species is long‑lived (often 5–6 years) and extremely robust, making it one of the most sought‑after Asian scolopendrids in the hobby.
