Eurycantha horrida, commonly known as the Thorny Devil stick insect, is a robust, ground-dwelling phasmid native to Papua New Guinea. Its heavily armoured body, thorny limbs, and earthy brown coloration provide excellent camouflage among leaf litter and bark. Unlike most stick insects, it prefers hiding in crevices or under logs rather than climbing foliage. Males are smaller and more spiny, while females are bulkier and capable of laying eggs in soft substrate. With its nocturnal habits and powerful legs, E. horrida is a fascinating example of terrestrial adaptation within the phasmid family.
