Chaerilus cimrmani is a small, forest‑dwelling scorpion native to the humid mountain regions of southern Thailand. It lives tucked beneath rotting logs, stones and deep leaf litter, favouring cool, shaded microhabitats where moisture remains constant throughout the year. In the wild it is a secretive species, rarely seen in the open, and it relies more on stillness and camouflage than aggression. One of its characteristic behaviours is thanatosis—feigning death when disturbed—which, combined with its naturally calm disposition, makes it a gentle and unthreatening species to work with.
 
Adults reach around 5 cm and are typically a deep, glossy black, giving them a compact, almost beetle‑like appearance. Despite their sombre colouring, they are engaging animals to observe, especially during slow, deliberate foraging at dusk. Venom potency in the genus Chaerilus is considered very low, and C. cimrmani is widely regarded as suitable for beginners who want a scorpion that is both hardy and easy to manage without the defensive behaviour seen in many desert species.
 
In captivity, this species thrives in a small, vertically modest enclosure with a deep, consistently moist substrate such as coco fibre or forest soil. Good humidity is essential, and a layer of leaf litter or bark helps replicate its natural cover. It rarely burrows deeply but appreciates multiple hiding places and a stable, cool environment. Feeding is straightforward—small crickets or roaches offered once or twice a week are readily accepted. With simple care and a calm temperament, Chaerilus cimrmani makes an excellent introduction to forest scorpions and a rewarding species for keepers who enjoy observing subtle, natural behaviours.
