Euphrynichus bacillifer is a large, nocturnal whip spider species native to humid regions of central and southern Africa, including Kenya, Madagascar, and Mozambique. Known for its elongated pedipalps and whip-like sensory legs, it navigates darkness with eerie precision and captures prey using rapid, mantis-like strikes. Though skittish and sensitive to light or drafts, it thrives in moist, well-ventilated enclosures with ample hiding spots. Its bacilliform bulges—gland-rich structures on the pedipalps—play a role in intraspecies communication, especially during mating.
