Yuukianura aphoruroides is a striking orange springtail species from the family Neanuridae, known for its slow, deliberate movement and lack of a functional furcula. Unlike the tiny white springtails commonly used in bioactive setups, this species is larger, more visible, and far easier to observe as it grazes across damp substrate. Its rounded body, smooth texture, and vivid pigmentation make it one of the most recognisable springtails in the hobby, and its three ocelli per side help distinguish it from other orange‑coloured species that are often mislabelled.
 
In culture, Y. aphoruroides thrives in consistently moist environments rich in decaying organic matter, fungal growth, and microbial films. It plays a valuable role as a detritivore, breaking down soft plant material and suppressing early mould formation before it becomes problematic. Reproduction is parthenogenetic, allowing colonies to expand steadily without the need for males, and once established they form dense, stable populations that require minimal maintenance. Their gentle movement and soft bodies mean they benefit from careful watering and light feeding, but overall they are a hardy, forgiving species ideal for terrariums, vivaria, and invertebrate enclosures.
