Pachyphytum oviferum, commonly known as Moonstones, is a compact, clump‑forming succulent native to the rocky cliffs of San Luis Potosí, Mexico. It develops tight rosettes of thick, rounded, pastel leaves coated in a natural powdery bloom, giving the plant its distinctive soft, “sugared” appearance. Rosettes typically reach around 10 cm across, while the plant as a whole remains low and dense, with short stems that may eventually trail slightly as they elongate.
In cultivation, Moonstones thrive in full sun to bright light, which helps maintain their compact shape and enhances their colouring. They prefer a well‑drained, gritty soil and should be watered moderately during active growth but kept almost dry at other times, as they are highly susceptible to rot if overwatered. Their thick leaves store moisture efficiently, making them far more tolerant of drought than excess moisture.
