Lilac Springtails (Ceratophysella isabellae 'lilac')

Ceratophysella isabellae ‘Lilac’ is the original selectively bred colour morph of C. isabellae, known for its soft lavender‑grey body tone and calm, substrate‑dwelling behaviour. It’s a compact Poduromorpha springtail with short, controlled jumps and a tendency to cluster tightly in moist microhabitats. The lilac morph is entirely captive‑bred, emerging from early albino lines before later refinement produced the brighter ‘Yellow’ variant.

In culture, C. isabellae ‘Lilac’ thrives in consistently damp soil, clay, or sphagnum substrates, with leaf litter or egg carton providing structure and surface area. It feeds readily on mold, fungal films, decaying leaves, and small portions of fish food or rice, and benefits from a calcium source such as cuttlebone. Temperatures around 20–24°C support steady reproduction, though the species remains stable across typical UK household conditions. The lilac morph is valued for its gentle colouring, reliable growth, and suitability as a bioactive cleanup crew or as a visually appealing standalone culture..
