Kaeng Krachan Earth Tiger (Chilobrachys sp. “Kaeng Krachan")

Chilobrachys sp. “Kaeng Krachan” is a striking, fast, and highly web‑oriented Old World tarantula originating from the Kaeng Krachan region of Thailand, an area of dense forest, high humidity, and deep leaf‑litter microhabitats. Like most members of the genus, it is a secretive fossorial species, relying heavily on silk to construct thick tunnel systems and reinforced burrows. Its colouration is typically earthy—rich browns and bronzes—allowing it to blend seamlessly into its natural environment, but its behaviour is anything but subtle.

In captivity, this species is known for its speed, defensiveness, and prolific webbing, often transforming its enclosure into a dense, chaotic network of silk. It thrives when given deep substrate, stable humidity, and a dark retreat where it can establish a permanent burrow. Once settled, it becomes a reliable feeder with a strong response, though it remains a species best suited to experienced keepers who are comfortable working around fast Old World terrestrials.

For those who appreciate the dramatic web architecture and bold personality typical of Chilobrachys, the “Kaeng Krachan” form is an excellent addition—hardy, impressive, and full of character.
