Lucihormetica verrucosa, known as the warty glowspot cockroach, is a striking species native to Venezuela and Colombia. Males feature prominent yellow spots on their pronotum, once thought to be bioluminescent but now known to glow only under UV light due to autofluorescence. These spots may signal fitness or play a role in mating and aggression. Both sexes are glossy black with pale margins and vestigial wings, preferring to dwell on the ground and burrow into leaf litter. Ovoviviparous and nocturnal, they give birth to live young and thrive in warm, humid environments. In captivity, they feed on fruits, vegetables, rotting wood, and protein-rich supplements, making them a fascinating and manageable species for dedicated keepers.
