Golden Skelton Millipede (Trachyjulus sp.)

Trachyjulus sp. refers to a group of elegant, slender Asian millipedes known for their elongated bodies, smooth segments, and gentle, secretive behaviour. They belong to the family Cambalopsidae and are typically found across Southeast Asia, including Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, and surrounding regions. Unlike the bulkier African giants, Trachyjulus species are more streamlined and often display subtle banding or earthy tones that blend beautifully into leaf litter habitats.

These millipedes are strongly associated with humid forest floors, where they burrow through soft soil, rotting wood, and deep leaf litter. Their natural environment is consistently moist, shaded, and rich in decaying organic matter, which forms the bulk of their diet. They are excellent decomposers, breaking down leaf litter and contributing to soil health in their native ecosystems.

In captivity, Trachyjulus species are generally hardy when their environmental needs are met: high humidity, deep substrate, and stable warmth. They are peaceful, slowmoving, and spend much of their time hidden beneath substrate or curled within rotting wood. Their smaller size and gentle nature make them ideal for naturalistic, bioactive setups where they can display their natural burrowing and foraging behaviours.
