Hierodula membranacea, commonly known as the giant Asian mantis, is a large, vibrant green mantid native to South and Southeast Asia. With its powerful build and keen eyesight, it’s an active hunter that readily takes down prey ranging from flies to small vertebrates. Females are especially robust, while males are slimmer and more agile. This species thrives in warm, moderately humid conditions and requires ample vertical space for moulting and ambush. Its bold coloration and confident behaviour make it a favourite among mantis keepers and educators alike.
