Flake Soil

Flake soil is a fermented substrate made from sawdust, widely used in beetle breeding and invertebrate keeping. The fermentation process breaks down lignin in the wood, unlocking cellulose and nutrients that larvae can digest, making it far more suitable than raw sawdust or leaf litter. This nutrient-rich medium supports healthy growth, allowing beetle larvae to reach larger sizes and develop more reliably into adults.

Beyond beetles, flake soil is also used for other invertebrates such as cockroaches, millipedes, and isopods, as it maintains humidity, resists mold, and creates a stable environment. Its earthy texture and microbial balance mimic natural decomposition, giving keepers a consistent, clean, and effective substrate for long-term rearing success.

    Seems really good!

Seems like good quality flake soil. Did a grub change today and watched the grub actively feeding.
