Kochiana brunnipes, the Brazilian Dwarf Pink‑Leg, is a compact fossorial tarantula native to humid forest regions of Brazil. Although small—typically reaching 5–7 cm diagonal leg span—it has a confident presence in the enclosure, maintaining a tidy burrow system and emerging readily for food. Adults show a dark brown to near‑black body with warm pinkish leg highlights, giving the species a subtle but distinctive appearance. As a true dwarf tarantula, its proportions are noticeably different from larger New World species: shorter legs, a rounded carapace, and a compact stance that makes it instantly recognisable.
 
In the wild, K. brunnipes occupies leaf‑litter zones, root systems, and soft soil pockets where moisture remains stable. It constructs silk‑reinforced tunnels and often maintains multiple entrances, retreating quickly at the slightest disturbance. This behaviour carries over into captivity. While temperament is generally calm, the species is extremely fast—more inclined to bolt than to kick hairs or threat‑pose—so routine maintenance benefits from slow, predictable movements. Once settled, it becomes a reliable feeder, taking small roaches or crickets with enthusiasm and often dragging prey deep into its burrow.
 
Captive care is straightforward: deep substrate, moderate humidity, and a stable temperature range allow it to thrive. It appreciates a moisture gradient, using the drier upper layers for webbing and the slightly damp lower layers for burrow stability. Although reclusive, it is not invisible; keepers often see it rearranging substrate, reinforcing tunnel walls, or sitting at the burrow entrance during quiet hours. Overall, Kochiana brunnipes is a hardy, rewarding dwarf species—ideal for keepers who enjoy natural behaviours, tidy burrow architecture, and a compact tarantula with a surprisingly bold feeding response.
