Haplopus micropterus is a striking, winged stick insect native to the Dominican Republic and surrounding areas, known for its impressive size and cryptic beauty.
Females can reach up to 14 cm in length, with males slightly smaller and more slender. Their bark-like texture and muted coloration make them masters of disguise among twigs and foliage. Despite their formidable appearance, they’re slow-moving and docile, relying on camouflage rather than speed or aggression.
This species belongs to the subfamily Cladomorphinae and reproduces sexually, with distinct male and female forms. In the wild, they likely inhabit dense vegetation, feeding on a variety of broadleaf plants.
