Psalmopoeus reduncus is the smallest member of the Psalmopoeus genus, but it carries all the trademark qualities that make the group so compelling: speed, intelligence, and a semi‑arboreal lifestyle built around tight retreats and opportunistic webbing. Native to Costa Rica and neighbouring regions of Central America, it inhabits humid forest zones where it shelters in narrow crevices, hollow branches, and dense vegetation. Adults show a warm, earthy colour palette—rich browns, subtle copper tones, and a velvety sheen that gives them a quietly elegant appearance compared with the more flamboyant irminia or cambridgei. The abdominal patterning is crisp, and juveniles in particular display beautifully contrasted markings as they grow.
 
Temperament‑wise, P. reduncus is quick, reactive, and defensive when pressed, but not needlessly confrontational. It prefers to bolt rather than stand its ground, relying on speed and tight retreats rather than threat postures. Webbing is moderate but purposeful: sheets, curtains, and reinforced hide entrances rather than the sprawling structures seen in African genera. They are excellent feeders, often showing confident aerial strikes typical of arboreal species.
 
In captivity, P. reduncus thrives in a vertically oriented enclosure with good ventilation, a snug hide, and moderate humidity. They appreciate slightly higher moisture levels than their South American cousins, reflecting their Central American forest origins. When kept correctly, they grow steadily, remain visible enough to be interesting, and reward attentive keepers with that distinctive Psalmopoeus blend of grace, speed, and understated beauty. It’s a species that feels refined—compact, efficient, and very much shaped by the dense, humid forests it comes from.
