Gyna centurio, also known as the Centurion or Chrome Porcelain Cockroach, is a dazzling species native to East and Central Africa, where it thrives in tropical leaf litter and undergrowth. In the wild, it plays a vital role as a nocturnal decomposer, feeding on decaying plant matter, fallen fruits, and even carrion—helping recycle nutrients into the ecosystem. Its flattened body and well-developed wings allow it to navigate dense vegetation with ease, though it prefers staying close to cover. In captivity, it’s admired for its metallic sheen and butterfly-like appearance. Adults are capable climbers and flyers, so secure enclosures are essential. Ovoviviparous by nature, they give birth to live young and do well on a varied diet including leaf litter, fruit, and supplements like bee pollen.
