Bumblebee Jumping Spider (Phidippus morpheus)

Phidippus morpheus, often called the “Bumblebee Jumping Spider,” is a striking salticid native to the United States. Its bold yellow‑orange banding against a dark body gives it a bee‑like appearance, making it one of the more visually distinctive members of the genus. Like other Phidippus, it relies on keen eyesight and agile leaps to hunt, often found on shrubs and trees where it stalks small insects.

In captivity, P. morpheus is considered a manageable species, thriving at moderate temperatures (20–26 °C) and humidity around 50–60%. It prefers arboreal setups with vertical climbing space and benefits from good ventilation and occasional misting. Active, curious, and visually engaging, this species is popular among enthusiasts for its unique coloration and lively behavior.
