Banded Titan Millipede (Thyropygus sp "banded titan")

Thyropygus sp. “Banded Titan” is another of the large Southeast Asian Thyropygus forms, notable for its bold, clean banding and heavy, rounded body shape. It shares the same general ecology and care profile as the Orange Titan, but with a more contrasting colour pattern — typically dark mahogany or black segments with lighter tan or caramel banding across the margins. Adults usually reach 18–22 cm, giving them that unmistakable “titan” presence.

They originate from Thailand’s monsoon forest belt, where the ground stays warm, humid, and rich in decaying leaf litter. Like most Thyropygus, they spend much of their time burrowed in deep, cohesive soil layers, emerging at night to feed. Their temperament is calm and predictable, making them a good choice for keepers who enjoy large, placid millipedes with striking patterning.

In captivity, they thrive with warm temperatures, high humidity, and deep substrate. They’re hardy once settled, but they do rely on consistently moist conditions — drying out is the main risk for any of the titan‑type Thyropygus. Their banded appearance makes them visually distinctive, and their size gives them real presence in a collection.
