HOUSING

Jumping spiders are diurnal, meaning they are active during the day and rely on good lighting to hunt and explore. They thrive in well-lit environments, preferably with natural sunlight or indirect artificial light. Avoid heat-producing bulbs, as they can cause temperature spikes. A bright, ambient setup will keep them comfortable and encourage natural behaviours.

Jumping spiders need a compact, well-ventilated enclosure that allows for climbing and exploration. A 4″ x 4″ x 6″ vertical setup is ideal for a single spider. Ensure proper airflow with small ventilation holes or mesh sections to prevent escapes.

For substrate, a thin layer of coco fiber, paper towel, or soil (free from fertilizers and pesticides) helps maintain humidity. Provide twigs, cork bark, or fake plants for climbing and enrichment.

FEEDING

Jumping spiders are opportunistic hunters, meaning they thrive on live insect prey.

Their diet typically includes fruit flies, small crickets, and other tiny insects that match their size. Adults eat every 2–3 days, while juveniles may need daily feeding to support growth. Choose insects equal to or slightly smaller than the spider’s body.

SEXING

In the Regius Jumping spiders the males and female are very obviously different. Males are black with green or blue shiny mouthparts. Females tend to be more beige with reds and oranges on their abdomen.

In other jumpers you may have to look for the Pedipalps in the male or the the size. Males are often much smaller
